The Cost of Storage in the 2050 Electric Vehicle Report
The technologies that seem plausible to play a role in 20 50, which was our focus, come in three groups. Lithiamion batteries are very good, in terms of cost, at expanding how much power they can deliver at any instant. The other group is typified by pumped hydro storage, or pumpd storage. That's comparatively cheap. A what's expensive is a delivering power. So something like pump storage, hydro and the use of hydrogen comes in there. And some thermal storage technologies come in that category. Even a simple representation of storage takes like seven perimeters. But there are, in principle, seven of them. Much more complicated than describing generation techno gies.
