Lafayette is a person of great principle. Where did these principles come from? How did he become so firmly rooted in ideas of liberal governmence and reform? This is actually a very interesting question, because when he's young it's very clear that he is sort of looking to his mark on the world by being like a glorious soldier. But there was clearly some colonel inside of him that wanted to do more than sort of just be a famous soldier. He wanted to be afamous soldier on behalf of something that was noble, on behalf ofSomething that was idealistic. And so that sort of enters his heart.
