The Witnessing of Climate Change

In a sense, one could imagine that the work of a climate scientist is to bear witness to that which would otherwise go in unseen. Without the work of scientists, we would be far less aware of the slow violence that's being wrought by the increasing temperatures. And I want to offer just one more brief reflection on this idea of witnessing from a Christian theological perspective. It's by an American artist called Mark Tansey. We're immediately reminded of the scene in John's Gospel where the disciple Thomas demands to see material evidence of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. The ruptured fault becomes Christ's pierced side.
