He was thought to be a weak speaker with a weak voice and couldn't pronounce one of his words properly. Partly he has a great rhetorical knowledge, but partly he seems to very quickly have acquired an astute political understanding of both international affairs and also of contemporary internal politics in Athens. There does seem to be a lot of evidence, and contemporary evidence, where politicians accuse him of pre-preparing and writing out his speeches.
