Father Martin says Catholic schools can't fire teachers who identify as LGBT because this violates federal civil rights acts that prevent discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation or marital status. The first amendment prevents the government from prohibiting the free exercise of religion and one of those exercises is a religion's ability to choose its own ministers.
