I don't know anyone who has suspected that they are autistic, who hasn't ended up being diagnosed. By the time you are prepared to pay somebody to tell you whether or not you're autistic, the chances are it's probably fairly likely. So I think that there's this rather unkind notion in the general public that people who say I'm pursuing autism diagnosis are sort of just doing it on a whim - which is very rare.
