Paternal Function

Steve: I noticed that our great theorists, which proved for me are Freud, Klein, Winnekot, beyond primarily many others. But they could be classified according to how much their style of intervention and approach seemed to be paternal function. That is coming in from the outside as a third and asking a little bit more of the patient, maybe in a confrontative way. Steve: It isn't a gender thing, it's an approach of immersion versus confrontation. He says some supervisees would gravitate towards theories in which they felt most emotionally comfortable. Some could not be very maternal, they would just feel uneasy. Others were very hesitant about confronting a patient.
