Sensitive Toothpaste: Does It Really Work?
The pain is all down to the naturally occurring tubules in the next layer down in your teeth, the dentine. Different brands each appear to have different proprietary desensitizing agents in them. All claim to create a kind of film over the tubules, covering the back up so you don't get that pain. But does it actually work? Is it worth paying more? It looks like there is good evidence that they do do what they claim to do. The expert said she herself wouldn't buy a specific sensitive toothpaste because she doesn't have sensitivity issues. But if she did, she would go for one.
