Traffic Flow Modelling Is a Multiscale Thing
The tricky thing about traffic flow modelling is that it's a sort of multiscale thing. You're not going to model every car to one centimeter accuracy. And so when people try and make detailed models of traffic flow, there's just not a lot to go on. In the end, in the end, people spend less time in traffic jams because routing systems can figure out how to send cars to places where there aren't traffic jams.
