The Myth of Poseidon
Poseidon's fierce aspect is described in great detail in the Odyssey. He was worshipped at sanctuaries which were located either on promontories, on islands, or close to the coast. Temples of Poseidon were often built on cliffs, and sailors would say a prayer to him as they sailed by. In the Odyssey, Garrestos was the first safe port of call for ships returning home from the Trojan War. Recent discovery has led some scholars to point out that there may be a relationship between Tronene, Calaria, and Asilon.
