A leader that's no longer living is a much easier transfer in logic than a leader that you can actually see in front of you. We project power and perfection under these transference objects, he says. But the problem is that by definition, all of those transference objects are mortal themselves. And for our transference objects to be plausible over a long period of time, we have to be willing to resort even to violence in their defense.
