The attentional flashlight is a handy tool, because wherever it is that you direct it, you're going to get crisp, clear information. But the thing about the flashlight, but it can also get pulled. We actually see increases in perceptual activity in the earliest stages of visual processing when people are paying attention to particular partof space or particular object. The third system is not so much about what the flashlight when now the floodlight. It's really about our goals, our internally held priorities of what's important and relevant for us to do.
