What Are the Pieces of Evidence That Convinced You That There Was More to the Story?

I'm not the first to make this claim. There are anthropologists who went out and collected evidence from things such as the standard cross-cultural sample that results in some indications that many societies had more consensual based governance. The more I read, the more I think I realized that this was a very widespread phenomenon. And it's something that we ought to take account of when we talk about democracy today and we think about its long history.
