The History of Hyperbaric Oxygen

When you compress somebody on air, all of the gases you're breathing are oxygen, nitrogen, argon. All of them have an increased pressure, and that is bioactive. But in addition, the change in barometric pressure itself has a bioactivity to it. And that's the new appreciation. I remember the Navy was interested in this because the nitrogen narcosis, the bins, where if a diver comes up too fast, they get bubbles in the blood and have to be put in a pressure chamber to keep from dying. Right. Well, that's how hyperbaric oxygen really made a comeback in the United States.
