The History of Stout

Stout didn't always mean a dark beer. When did that transition happen where we started talking about stout being a dark beer? Quite late. I've actually got one brewing record for pale stout from Bartley Perkins, which is from 1805. But evidently, some other brewers did carry on brewing it a little bit longer. So basically 100 years after porter appears. It's not like it just went away immediately and talking of colour. And the taste probably changed as well.
