The energy transition away from fossil fuels is the single most important challenge humanity faces in the 21st century. Politicians care most about getting votes and staying in power, so they favor telling people what they want to hear over telling the truth. They assure us they already have a plan to completely phase out fossil fuels and achieve net zero goals by 2050. But they avoid discussing hard data and focus instead on appealing to voters' emotions. If we aim not just to replace fossil fuels but to supply an even larger amount of clean sustainable energy at an affordable cost, doing so will usher in a whole new era of human prosperity.
