Our brains are bombarded with information, unbelievable amounts of sensory input. And if we were to try to swallow the world whole, we would just be confused and wouldn't be able to even take a step forward. So our sensory apparatus filters so that we only perceive a fraction of the information out there. We distort it in our brains based upon our preexisting beliefs to twist the fraction. Once you start to understand that your mind does this, because human minds do this, naturally, unconsciously, it means that they are also susceptible to disingenuous manipulation from outside sources.
