With interest rates still low and inflation on the rise, would it be wise for rentors to take loans and try and stretch to buy a house right now? Or does the risk of a recession just mean that if a bunch of people do that, we might face another housing market crash? Wha do you advise people? Well, it depends on your time horizon. If you're 80 years old, i'm not sure you should be buying an extra home now. But in general, over the course of history, real estate is one of the better hedges against inflation. So at the margin, our housing probably does look more tra ive as an investment now.
