The expression comes from originally like a cannon, I guess. A cannon because it's such a powerful weapon, you have to tie it down or somehow like hold it to the floor. If it's loose, if it's not tied down, it's going to be out of control. Someone who would lose their cool, quite easy as well maybe. Can you think of an example of a celebrity that could be a loose cannon? Yes, maybe a celebrity could be Jack Black. Why is Jack Black and he's a cannon? I've seen him suddenly go crazy.
