The Nature of Destructiveness in High-Conflict Divorce

The term destructive is best reserved for a pattern of personal and motivational characteristics that seek to attack links, undermine or even destroy the family. It is internalized destructivity, a mental state that is compulsively enacted externally in dysfunctional high-conflict divorce. The lack of a bridge between the two becomes a chasm filled with projections of each other's worst fears and perceptions. Even if this is driven by one expouse, not both, the pattern is usually chronic.
