Senior academics often fail to take junior colleagues seriously. Rejection is an everyday fact, and it happens to every one, only to a varying extent. Some people out there whoe tryd to block papers in their own intellectual back yard. But i would say 90 % of ther ecodomic interactions are really inspired in a fairly selfless, objective way where people just try to make things better.
