CHAPTER

The DSS's Role in the Case of Joshua Deschaney

Joshua Deschaney was brought to the ER with severe head trauma in January 1983. He underwent emergency surgery that did save his life, but there was permanent damage to his brain. DSS obtained a temporary restraining order that gave them custody of Joshua for a few days. A team of medical staff and social workers decide there wasn't enough evidence to show abuse. So Joshua was released back to his father, and a social worker from DSS was assigned to work with the dad on parenting skills.
