Drayton's Love Poem
Drayton is not necessarily speaking for himself anymore than Shakespeare or any other you know sonnetier. He holds out this hope that there might be something left in our love and he's inviting his lover to join him. The metaphor is love is the dying patient who has received the last rights and the deathbed and the lover is she who can yet cure him with one blessed look or one benediction. It seems very believable he does seem believably angry yet no less believably tender in the second half of the poem.
