Bread and Wine
It's a constant theme from Melchizedek through the Exodus and then the manna coming from heaven. The imagery of bread all throughout Jewish history is in fact, preparation for the Eucharist. And so red in that way, you do see this stuff all over the place. But if you understand that blood is communion, the same reason why you wouldn't want to commune with an animal is the reason you would want to communes with God.
