In March, a Facebook group was launched with the aim of helping people arriving or returning to Hong Kong who are required to do 14 days of quarantine either at home or in other accommodation. In December of that year, the Hong Kong government introduced what it called the designated quarantine hotel scheme. It took until April 2013 for Facebook and WhatsApp to bring in specific measures to limit the spread of online hate, misinformation and conspiracy.
