The Importance of Layered Defenses
IaaS encrypts everything all the time, everywhere and in IaaS buckets automatically creates two layers of defense that are incredibly strong. If one layer is misconfigured or is attack prone, the other layer perhaps can compensate for that. Some people say for SAS, there is no defense in depth. It's just username password. If somebody knows it, your toast,. But if Bob isn't supposed to interact with that file, but his identity got on one of the ACLs, he won't be able to decrypt that object.
