Buchanan wrote to a justice of the Supreme Court named John Catran who he was inquiring about the outcome of the case. Taney went even further and struck down the entire Missouri compromise as a limitation on slavery that exceeded Congress's power under the Constitution. Buchanan wholeheartedly supported this blatant white supremacy.
