The Writers Guild of America was in contract negotiations with the organization that represents production companies. Big studios were saying these demands are unreasonable, which is why union writers overwhelmingly agreed to a strike. The last time writers went on strike, it disrupted television for months and cost the industry an estimated $2 billion.
