On the Wind Sailing

The Gulfstream Rally
This race started a day early and we got out just behind Hurricane Sandy. The further south you get, the less weather you're going to have unless there's a weird hurricane that pops up in November - which is very rare. On an eight-day passage, if you can catch a ride from a favorable current, you can pick up 24 miles a day over four days. That's 96 miles. So you can take advantage of it. It doesn't really ever get dangerous until the wind goes over 30 knots,. 25 knots's uncomfortable but it's not going to kill you.
