Pauli's Half-Cop Theory

Pauli developed a theory that was part classical Newtonian and part quantum. He tried to understand the observations of light given out by atoms. The alkali elements consist of shells, which you can imagine as a soccer ball of electrons. Now, if you subject those atoms to a magnetic field, you can alter the frequency of the spectral lines. It became a puzzle to understand those observations.
