English has a lot of verbs that take on vaguely middle meaning when there have no overt direct object but then become fully transitive active voice the instant a direct object appears like I move I move the car. You know the language in Greek on the romance languages on the languages of Europe will for the most part be very clear about this. In Spanish you can't just say yo banyo perro or something like that like I bathed the dog and it might just be la vard.
