Madonna said she was being punished for being a sexual creature. The only number one singles she had between 1991 and 2000 were these so-called housewife ballads. In 1995, just five years after her first greatest hits album, she put all of these songs on a compilation called Something to Remember. It would serve as Madonna's definitive transition, out of her erotic 90s phase, and into her next incarnation, as Kabbalah Mom.
