Just over a third of all families in Australia live in what they describe as a childcare desert, which means that there are three or more children for every available position within a 20 minute drive. In every single capital city, there are also childcare deserts. The postcode that you live in is going to influence whether or not when you're ready to go back to work, there's going to be accessible, affordable, suitable early education and care. We need to fix the early year system so that every child and every family, regardless of where they live, has got access to quality early childhood education and care,. It's a crucial service and too many families miss out on that.
