For a long time we thought animals couldn't do a lot of different things that it turned out they could do because we weren't testing them correctly. i would imagine you have the same problem with trying to study plants. My only worry is that because of this fast science of this culture of fast science we might be falling prey of an attitude of over promising and under delivering. I don't want to over promise to them under deliver i want to take it and say hey we have the evidence and of course it could be falsified as future work might show that you were wrong but again the slower we do it the better now.
