How much was Mussolini in charge of his own, I was clear. Are the Germans shadowing him and moving him around? Because essentially he's under German guard, isn't he? The not Italians guarding him so much as he has a squad of SS with him. We'll see on the journey that he tried to break out at four o'clock in the morning from the Germans and it led to confrontation. But then Mussolini backed down and neatly left in the morning instead. So it was brittle relationship at the end because Mussolini at one time he'd admired Hitler - just before the outbreak of Second World War he admired Hitler. By this time he got fed up with the Germans
