How to Palpate the Radial Pulse
The artery is almost always slightly more medial than you expect it to be. You want to advance your needle slowly so that you don't miss the arterial flash. If you go slow enough, you might be able to brush the artery aside rather than puncture it. The only other thing I'd add is if you are using an ultrasound, which I know you're going to get to in a minute, that you want to have that ultrasound set up so that you can be comfortable.
