Introduction
General Joseph Hooker ordered all his troops to retreat back into a defensive position around Chancellor'sville in an area locals call the wilderness. You know it's not your place to question a superior officer, but you feel Hooker's strategy is jeopardizing the whole campaign and must speak out. "I fail to understand the advantage of fighting a defensive battle in a nest of thickets," says General Hooker when asked why he called off the attack. 'We have the numbers the equipment and the discipline to win Please ragged soldiers don't stand a chance,' replies Major general Hooker.
