Episode 110: Student Collaboration
Modern Classrooms Project Podcast
AP or ELL, How Can I Make Sure That My English Learners Collaborate?
I think approaching both from the lens of equity, I think is really important because we don't want to put students in a position where they're constantly feeling like they always need help. Like if we're able to kind of take the approach of what strengths do the students have, what assets do they have, and how can they contribute, then that will be more equitably distributed. So giving them scaffolds for English learners also gives them time to process their new content before even talking about it. And so you know, not I wouldn't be able to use the same article for a whole class discussion like I do in my regular economics class. There's just too wide of a range.
