At the end of August, we would unofficially welcome back the 166 men taken prisoner by the North Vietnamese. There were many spontaneous many reunions that night as old friends saw each other for the first time in years. The happiness touched everyone. Our former POWs were ready to pick up their lives and careers. What an enormous challenge. Some came home knowing nothing of the summer of love, the Watts riots, the Kent State shootings or the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy.
