The Importance of Learning More in Anthropology
The best part of anthropology to me is that we get away with telling our students that they have to write a really good grant proposal or research proposal, but then they're supposed to go out in the field and throw it away. That's the best thing about our field. I know there's some fields right now that are trying to institute rules that you're not allowed in your doctoral research to do anything other than test the hypotheses that your committee has approved. The only way to do that is to get immersed in a certain set of social relations that don't all have to be in the same place,. But that have to give you the opportunity to figure out where your questions weren't good enough
