Scipio got greedy and decided to attack a small coastal city while he waited for the rest of the fleet. The carthaginians watched with amusement as scipio foolishly led all 17 of his ships into a harbor they could easily trap him in. When the morning came, scipio's little was bottled up by a much larger carthaginian force. As the carthaginia advanced, the newly minted roman sailors lost their nerve and abandoned ship.
