After four weeks, they put the elevator timing back to normal. And what they found is that people continued to take the stairs because it had been in place long enough. They weren't going to mess with something that was so uncertain and irritating as that elevator anymore. It's a cool study,. I do think it represents how most of us go about changing our own behavior. If you can get them to change the context as well, so that the new context supports the behavior.
