The Dangers of Violent Dreams

Violent dreams can certainly be dangerous and are different from nightmares in that the person actively and physically acts out the dream, which is far from normal. Most often they are middle aged to older adults who start talking incessantly, shouting, screaming, punching, flailing their arms and kicking during sleep. In REM sleep behavior disorder, we see increased muscle twitching on the EMG channels as a result of jerky movements. Robin will tell us about unusual situation of acting out dreams in children and what that might mean.
