Noel Titus: Church of England and much of Christianity in Barbados was at tension with slavery. He says some clergy were slave owners, largely because they had glee-blend. The church's involvement went further with a selected version of the Bible created to keep the enslaved passive., writes Titus. Barbara Arendale believes the church must have a tone for this spiritual abuse and the slave trade's vast but unknown death toll.
