The exact impact of Falwell and the moral majority on the death toll of the AIDS crisis is impossible to calculate. As with the 1970s recession, this was a disaster with many factors behind it. We dealt with some of that in our two part are on the Reagan's and the AIDS epidemic. The total death toll to AIDS would measure close to half a million by the year 2000. Much of the government in action on AIDS during the crucial early years can be blamed on the religious rights of vicious rejection of any money being spent to help people sick with what was then called the gay plague.
