The narrator is very into those types of stories. She weaves that thing into the narrator telling you how she's feeling about her story, which is really cool. The arc of this story writ large is that she has a son with this guy and she wants her son to grow up and be a good person and not a bad guy. And overall, it seems like that's going to happen. But then by the end of the story, her son is like moving out, he's grown up, he's going to go off to college and Mary's girlfriend or something.
