Are We Witnessing an Inflationary Crisis?
Adam Sobel: Economic crises contribute to political extremism of one kind or another. In the 70s, struggle over who won and who lost was essentially a story of collective action. The key actors were trade unions,. in other words, and employers associations on the other side. He says that once upon a time society had this soft tissue of various types of organisation - many of those have frayed since the 1970s. 'What happens when individuals really in an atomised way confront these kind of pressures is our current moment,' he asks.
