Firefighter's Rethinking

Dodge ordered his crew to drop their heavy equipment. They had spent the past 8 minutes racing uphill while still carrying axes, saws, shovels and 20 pound packs. It wasn't until Dodge gave his order that most of the smoke jumpers set down their tools. In 1994 on Storm King Mountain in Colorado, high winds caused a fire to explode across a Gulch. Running uphill on rocky ground with safety in viewed just 200 feet away, 14 smoke jumpers and wildland firefighters died.
