Frankenstein - The Modern Prometheus
The original Prometheus was a god in Greek mythology. He defied the other gods and gave fire to the humans. When Benjamin Franklin manages to get electricity from lightning, there are depictions of him as a modern Prometheus. In Shelley's time, Prometheus was a symbol of excessive power. But he was also a symbol of a new political ideology.
