The Importance of Tradition in the Early Church

The question of who is Mary was not a hugely pressing question in the very early church. She wasn't believed to be a martyr and she wasn't an archangel so she didn't have that special status. Now there are those in the east especially who at first emphasized Mary, the mother of God but then they wondered if maybe there was more to her blessedness. It's like a reverse doubting Thomas situation.
